Neil Patrick Harris Talks Acting, Musical Theater and Receiving his Walk of Fame Star (Q&A)

Robot Chicken creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich are teaming with DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation for a one-time special taking place within the universe that features the likes of Superman, Batman and Lois Lane.

Set to air in the fall on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, the voice cast includes Green as Batman, Robin and Aquaman; Paul Reubens as the Riddler; Neil Patrick Harris as Two-Face; Alfred Molina as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as the Green Lantern; Megan Fox as Lois Lane; and Breckin Meyer as Superman. Additional voice cast includes Senreich, Abe Benrubi, Alex Borstein, Clare Grant, Tara Strong, Tom Root and Zeb Wells.

“Working with Seth and Matthew and the rest of the Robot Chicken crew has always been nothing short of insanity over the years,” DC Entertainment chief creative officer Geoff Johns said. “DC, Warner Bros. Animation and Adult Swim together — how could anyone resist?”

The Robot Chicken DC Comics Special becomes the latest effort for the Emmy-winning series to skewer another universe and follows the series’ popular Star Wars installments.

“Having been raised on DC Comics and the Super Friends vs. Legion of Doom, it’s exciting to tell a whole Robot Chicken story within this awesome universe,” Green said.

Added Senreich: “We’ve been working with Johns for over 15 years, so playing together on this special only made it more fun to work in the worlds we all love so dearly.”

Green will direct the 22-minute special, which was penned by co-head writers/co-executive producers Douglas Goldstein and Tom Root along with Robot Chicken writers Green, Senreich, Wells, Mike Fasolo, Matthew Beans and DC Entertainment’s Johns, Franklin & Bash’s Meyer and MAD’s Kevin Shinick, who also serves as the narrator, and with Ethan Marak, who co-produces. EPs include Green, Senreich, Johns, Sam Register, John Harvatine and Eric Towner.

The special comes shortly after Green and Senreich’s Stoopid Monkey and Buddy Systems united in December to form Stoopid Buddy Stoodios.

UTA brokered the deal.

‘The Smurfs 2′ Adds Neil Patrick Harris, Katy Perry & Others To Its Voice Cast

July 31, 2013 is the slated release date for the sequel to last year’s live-action adaptation of The Smurfs.

As of now, the entire cast that lent their voices to the Smurf characters in the first film are returning for the sequel, and some additional big names are throwing their names on to the cast list as well. Collider claims that talented actors like Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Hank Azaria, and Katy Perry will be joined by Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges), Christina Ricci (Black Snake Moan), and J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm).

The Hollywood Reporter explains what characters the three actors will play in the sequel. Ricci will voice Vexy, Smurfette’s (Perry) evil counterpart. Smoove will voice a character that will be introduced in the sequel named Hackus who is supposed to be much naughtier than the other Smurfs. Given Smoove’s film roles and writing credits, ‘naughty’ is definitely a fitting character attribute. Gleeson will be the only of the three new additions to provide himself as a physical actor. He will portray Victor Doyle, Harris’ character’s stepfather.

The Smurfs director Raja Gosnell is set to return for the sequel and the returning voices include; Sofia Vergara, Jonathan Winters, Alan Cumming, Fred Armisen, George Lopez, Anton Yelchin and John Oliver.

Neil Patrick Harris Starts Food Porn Twitter Account!

You know that thing where people tweet pictures of their lunch and everyone gets mad? When you ask people who aren’t on Twitter about why they won’t join, you often hear things like, “Who cares that I’m eating a sub for lunch?” Well “How I Met Your Mother” star Neil Patrick Harris has totally turned that on it’s ear. He’s reinvented this particular meme by starting a food porn Twitter account.

Patrick started @NPHFoodPorn, and tweets pictures of all of his very lovely meals. Honestly, how does the man stay so thin eating deliciousness like this! Check out some of the photos he’s posted below and try not to drool.

Even cooler? Patrick’s latest tweet showed a picture of his sweetie David Burtka (see below). He tweeted, “Dessert: My dapper dining companion, @Davidburtka. Sweeter than the tastiest confection.” We love you, NPH!

Neil Patrick Harris to Host Tony Awards For 3rd Time!

Categories: News, Tony Awards

Congratulations to Neil for being able to host the Tony Awards again this year! I don’t know about you guys, but I’m very excited about this! :D

Neil Patrick Harris will reprise his role as the host of the Tony Awards — again.

Producers of Broadway’s grand prize night announced that the “How I Met Your Mother” star will emcee the show, to air on CBS on June 10 from the Beacon Theatre.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of this year’s Tony Awards,” Harris said in a statement. “Not only will I be shining a spotlight on the best that Broadway has to offer, but hopefully I’ll score some free house seats to a show or five.”

This will be the third time that Harris has hosted the telecast, following stints in 2009, for which he and the TV production won an Emmy Award, and last year.

Best-known for his work on TV shows including the current hit CBS comedy “How I Met Your Met Your Mother” and the prodigy-doc drama “Doogie Howser, M.D.” Harris knows his way around around a Broadway stage.

He made his debut in the play “Proof” and later appeared in the musicals “Cabaret” and Assassins.”

In his previous at bats as Tony host, Harris has shown off his pipes. Last year he launched the show, also at the Beacon on the upper West Side, with an irreverent and tuneful original song in which he declared that Broadway isn’t “just for gays anymore.”

How to top that? He and the writers have two months to come up with something.

‘Dr. Horrible”: Watch Neil Patrick Harris’ Superhero Musical Right Now
Posted by Eric • Leave a Comment / No Comments »
Categories: Dr. Horrible, News

These days, the amount of web series available online rivals that of actual television programming. In addition, the once held misconception that web series are some how inherently inferior to TV shows is largely dying off. One such web series that helped buck that notion is 2008’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. But don’t worry if you didn’t catch it online, no need to search and watch it episodically. Netflix’s has added the movie version, which is essentially the full length story arc sewn together, to its Watch Instantly service. Don’t have much time to spare? Fear not, this genre gem is less than 45 minutes long.

Who Made It: Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is the brainchild of Joss Whedon, a man high in the running for the title of King of the Geeks. Joss created such incredible niche programming as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, and Angel. In addition to co-writing the phenomenal The Cabin in the Woods, opening in two weeks, Whedon is also of course directing what is easily the most anticipated movie of 2012: The Avengers.

Who’s In It: Former child TV star, turned incredibly talented adult TV and film star, Neil Patrick Harris takes the titular role in this web series. Joining him, or more accurately opposing him, is frequent Joss Whedon collaborator, and fanboy icon in his own right, Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer.

What’s It About: Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is a musical told from the perspective of aspiring supervillain Dr. Horrible, alias Billy, who in addition to constructing a freeze ray, is desperately trying to muster the courage to speak to the girl of his dreams, Penny. His efforts on both fronts are being thwarted by smarmy, arrogant, inexplicably beloved superhero Captain Hammer. As he seeks to acquire the last component of his device, he is horrified to find that he has accidentally driven the object of his affection right into the arms of his mortal enemy. How will we win her back?

Why You Should Watch It: One of the biggest reasons to watch Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is Dr. Horrible himself. Neil Patrick Harris is a fantastically versatile actor and he showcases his chops both as a thespian and as a singer here. On the former side, he delivers an extremely complex character driven by the dual desire to be recognized as a legitimate force of evil and still be everything that sweet, good-hearted Penny desires. As a singer, his voice is vibrant and ear-pleasing, but also full of personality. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the songs in this flick are outstanding; well composed, funny, and emotionally stirring when the occasion calls. I defy you not to get the final number stuck in your head for days.

Joss Whedon is a guy who likes to take tropes and familiar stories apart, see how all the cogs and gears fit together, and then reconstitute them into something that looks very similar, but runs on a much smarter engine. With Dr. Horrible, Whedon reimagines a villain origin story with many of the recognizable beats that transform a good man into an evil one, but with the added twist that the man in question already thinks he is evil. So what we’re really watching is the transformation from decent human being with delusions of infamy devolve into legitimate monster. The film subtlety, and without sacrificing the humor, examines the common thread that tends to bind both good and evil: love. It’s a fascinating take on both superhero fiction and the romantic comedy.

Have I mentioned how hilarious this movie is? Because it is pretty freaking hilarious. Care for some examples? There is a league of evil, an organization to which Dr. Horrible is desperate to belong, led by a villain called Bad Horse. Whenever Bad Horse sends Horrible a message, it is read aloud by a chorus of cowboys in perfect rhyme. On top of that gag, Nathan Fillion is consistently uproarious as the painfully narcissistic, but ultimately idiotic hero. You also have to love that Dr. Horrible’s hapless sidekick, Moist, has only the super ability to…make things damp. There is a smattering of hero/villain relationship jokes peppering the film as well; noting the number of injuries Horrible has sustained at the hands of Hammer for instance. But as hilarious as all of this is, I love that it also has the guts to get really dark near the end. The balance of tones is masterful.

Zach Wahls: Ellen DeGeneres, Neil Patrick Harris Helped Make My Year
Posted by Eric • Leave a Comment / No Comments »
Categories: News, Videos

Zach Wahls has said Ellen DeGeneres and Neil Patrick Harris helped make his year “awesome.”

Wahls is the University of Iowa student who defended his two-mom family at an Iowa House hearing considering a proposed measure that would repeal the state’s gay marriage law by defining marriage as a heterosexual union in the Iowa Constitution.

A video of Wahls telling lawmakers that his family isn’t any different drew 18.3 million views to become the most-watched video in 2011.

At Saturday night’s Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards in New York City, Wahls told attendees that he did not think of his mothers as being gay.

“Now since that speech went viral back in February of 2011, I’ve been all over the country,” Wahls said. “From California to New York down to Florida. And I’m continuing to share my story, and have this conversation about gay marriage. Or as I like to call it: marriage.”

“Because obviously my moms are gay, but they’re not my gay moms.”

He added that while meeting Ellen DeGeneres was “awesome” and Neil Patrick Harris “tweeting about me was like dream come true,” the best parts of his year were those private conversations he had with everyday folks.

Neil & David Cover “Out” Magazine – February 2012

Categories: Magazines, News

Neil and David covered the February 2012 issue of Out magazine. Both talk how they first met, their relationship, how they aren’t “poster boys for gay relationships,” and more! It’s a great read and it’s cute story how they met and how their relationship started! Check it out below:

NEIL PATRICK HARRIS
I ran into my friend Kate one day and she was with this brooding, James Dean–type guy in a leather jacket who gave me the head nod and then turned away. I assumed he was Kate’s boyfriend and said, “Nicely done.” And she said, “David? He’s not playing on my team, but he has a boyfriend.” So, then I just kept seeing him on the periphery, and in turn, catching up on him, but I didn’t want to be that guy who was creating some sort of romantic interference. So, I was always around when he was around, hoping the stars would align. When we all hung out for the first time — I was invited by Kate to an American Idol viewing party — I just stammered around him. I couldn’t take my eyes off him.

There’s something kinetic about him and his being. He’s classically sexy, yet he’s very much a boy in his energy. It’s a great dynamic. When I see people who are equally attractive, they tend to seem more quiet and kind of Marlboro Man-y, and David’s the antithesis of that. He’s more like Tigger. I’m, in turn, very introspective — the thinker, rather than the doer. I tend to weigh options before making decisions, and David is the polar opposite of that. We’re hyper similar and also incredibly opposite. We share a wardrobe. We have the same shoe size, body size, height, and weight. We’re both Gemini. We both like the idea of family — not a nuclear family, but a social family. Yet, we’re incredibly opposite in the way we process information.

I remember being in my mid-twenties, lying in bed thinking, I’ve never taken a shower with anyone before; I’ve never had any kind of long-term relationship. I remember thinking that the rest of my life would be solo. I wasn’t weepy when I thought that — it was just a realization that I had gone this long being self-sufficient. Thankfully, the world changed and perceptions changed, and my life went to the East Coast, where there’s a much greater acceptance of anonymity and freedom. In New York, I was able to date with my head held higher. In L.A., it felt much more gossipy….

Jennifer Aniston as the Mother? HIMYM Honchos Reveal Secrets of the Endgame
Posted by Eric • Leave a Comment / No Comments »
Categories: How I Met Your Mother, News

The creators of How I Met Your Mother, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, pull so many tricks and twists on their audience, it’s hard to believe anything they tell us. After all, Robin’s whole “storytelling to her kids” episode was a dream sequence, and that broke our hearts, dang it!

But there is someone on HIMYM that you can trust, and the answer may surprise you…

“Our rationale was that our narrator has never lied to us,” Carter Bays says. “We take the stuff he says as gospel. Ultimately, it’s a pretty reliable narrator. I think people can trust what Bob Saget says.”

So we invite you all to go through every episode of HIMYM and write down what Future Ted has said. Then email us the notes. Thanks!

And of course the question everyone is always thinking came up: when the freak do we get to meet the mother? And will we meet her before the series finale? Bays and Thomas may not have given a straight answer, but the important thing is that they have the answer.

“We have it worked out,” Bays reveals. “We kind of know what the endgame of the series is. It’s obvious this show is around one central question, so that meeting will be part of the endgame of the show. How much the show will go beyond that, we can’t really say one way or the other.”

The casting of the mother is “very tough” for the HIMYM team. “There’s one school of thought where she turns around and it’s Jennifer Aniston, some huge star. Or you might want someone you’ve never seen before.”

Other highlights from the HIMYM TCA presentation:

• Bays and Thomas have “talked about” when to end the series, and they definitely plan on letting fans know when the end is coming. “I would imagine going into the final season we’d probably hint people to that. I think we’re keeping undecided as for now and we’ll see how things shake up.”
• Jason Segel is also on aboard if the show goes past his contract. “I really agree that I’d like to see the story come to its natural end, whether it’s 8 years or 9 years. I was so relieved when I found out there was an actual plan,” he laughs.
• Ted (Josh Radnor) will eventually address why he is no closer to getting married since Lily and Marshall’s engagement in season one. “We’re going to see Ted do that exact assessment. He’s going to come up with what he thinks is the answer and then we’re going to explore whether it is the right answer for him. There’s big soul searching going on for Ted in episode 16, 17 and 18,” Thomas reveals.
• How will the gang manage to all hang out together in the bar with Lily’s baby situation? “We have a solution to that and you’ll see how it unfolds,” Bays teases. And though Marshall and Lily are hanging out a lot in the East Hampton house, they might not permanently shack up there. ” We’re going to explore them realizing it’s isolating living in the suburbs. Its not necessarily a permanent stop.”

Do you think the mother should be a big well-known star or an unknown? When do you think HIMYM should wrap up?
